Water on walks
By Josh Elgram, WellPawed. Last updated .
Why you pack water for UK walks, and how a travel bowl differs from a bottle. Capacities are still to be confirmed.
A longer or warmer walk goes better if the water is yours. The travel bowl is what many pets will actually drink from. The bottle is how you carry the water. Some dogs drink from a nozzle. Many will not, so the bowl is the safer assumption.
What we cannot tell you yet
- Capacity, weight and material are to be confirmed on both placeholder listings.
- Silicone is in the bowl's working name. It is not a signed-off specification.
- Neither product filters water.
Cats who travel sometimes use a small bowl. Many cats will not drink away from home at all, and that is not a failure of the bowl. The bowl tool uses species and weight as a starting size only. The walk tool is the wider 'should we go out' question.

FAQ
How much water does a dog need on a walk?
It depends on the dog, the weather and the work. WellPawed will not invent a millilitre rule. If your pet has a health condition that changes drinking, ask your vet.
Is puddle water fine?
Do not plan on it. Standing water can be contaminated. Pack water you would be happy to offer.
