Everyday paw care

By Josh Elgram, WellPawed. Last updated .

A short after-walk check for UK dogs and cats. Balm is not medicine. Boot sizes are not confirmed yet.

After a walk, look at the paws. Grit, a tiny cut, a cracked pad or a lump of salt tells you more than a product page. Wipe them. If the dog is lame or the pad is split, stop shopping and call a vet.

Balm, then boots, if at all

Paw balm is for intact skin, after you know what is in the tin. We do not know that yet. Opened balm can also fall under the hygiene exception on the returns page. Dog boots are for during the walk, and only for dogs who will practise wearing them. They are not for cats.

Winter adds salt and cold. That version of this advice is the winter paw care guide, and the winter tool asks the same questions against your pet profile.

FAQ

Should I balm a bleeding pad?

No. Ingredients on our balm are to be confirmed, and broken skin is a vet question.

How do boots get measured?

The chart is to be confirmed. Weight is only a starting point inside the size helper. Measure the paw once a real chart exists.
